Description

      Karaikal community college was established on July 2010 in the campus of Karaikal polytechnic college, Varichikudy and it is affiliated to Tamilnadu Open University, Chennai. Education to everybody (100% literacy) is the theme of community college. The candidates enrolled in this scheme are school dropouts, SSLC fail, SSLC pass with minimum marks. This is the fifth academic year of karaikal community college in Home Appliances Repairing and servicing one year diploma course. More than 150 students were trained through this scheme. Students trained through this scheme were placed in jobs and sent for higher studies. Various facilities like personality development training, sports, industrial training and cultural programs are provided for the students during their training sessions.

The Objectives Of the Community College are

  • To strengthen and diversify the degree, diploma and certificate courses related to the needs of employment and necessary for the economy of the state and the country.
  • To provide access to higher education for large segments of population and in particular, the disadvantaged groups such as those living in remote and rural areas including working people, housewives and other adults who wish to upgrade or acquire knowledge through studies in various fields.
  • To promote acquisition of knowledge and to continually offer opportunities for upgrading knowledge , training and skills in the context of innovations, research and discovery in all fields of human endeavours.
  • To evolve flexible and robust curricula to widen educational access, deepen knowledge frontier and create entrepreneurial skill sets.
  • To provide a non formal channel of educational system complementary to the formal system and encourage transfer of credits.

      The objective of the Programme is to provide basic education and basic skills to school dropouts and others who can speak and write Tamil /English. The certificate will be issued by the community colleges recognized by the Tamil Nadu University.

PREPARATORY PROGRAMME FOR SECONDARY (PPS)

The objective of the Programme is to provide the basic knowledge about English, Tamil, Mathematics, Science and social science for the following categories:

  • Those who have passed the CCCP in the community colleges recognized by the Tamil Nadu University.
  • Those who failed in the 10th std, conducted by the state board for secondary education but wish to join a one year vocational diploma programme conducted at the community colleges.(students who failed in the 10th standard have do the PPS concurrently along with the vocational programme for which a pass in the 10th standard in the minimum qualification).

LIFE COPING SKILLS

      The main objectives of the life coping skills is to understand the meaning of life and its challenges, provide skills and knowledge needed to cope with life’s problems and challenges, develop a positive attitude train to be successful and useful citizens through positive thinking, cope with criticism,failure,anger,loneliness,physical and verbal abuse, improve self esteem, manage time and stress, develop one’s personality to its full potential, help the students to became team players, develop personal skills and to provide skills of problem solving and decision making. This course (LCS-1) is a compulsory course for all the diploma programmes.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

      The main objective of the communication skills is to introduce to the students the process and kinds of communication train the students to code and decode communication effectively explain the various interpersonal skills required to interact with others and make the students understand the meaning of relationship and how we communicate in everyday life. This course (CNS-1) is a compulsory course for diploma programmes.

EXAMINATION SYSTEM

     Examination to the diploma in home appliances repair and servicing is designed to maintain Quality of standard. Theory examinations will be conducted by the university in the identified centres and the practical will be conducted in the vocational programme centers. For the spot assignments students should come to vocational programme centre and write the assignments with the help of books/materials for each course, which will be evaluated by the evaluators appointed by university.

SPOT ASSIGNMENT:

spot assignments carries 25 marks, consists of short answer questions (150 words) and long answer questions (350 words) for each course.

Section-A: three short answer questions: 3*5 =15 marks
Section-B: A long answer questions : 1*10 =10 marks

Total = 25 marks

THEORY EXAMINATION:

student shall normally be allowed to appear for theory examination by completing practical and spot assignment. The term end examination shall carry section A and section B.

Section-A: short answer questions : 5*5 = 25 marks
Five out of eight questions

Section-B: Long answer questions : 5*10 = 50marks
Five out of eight questions

Total : = 75 marks

PASSING MINIMUM:

The passing minimum is 45 percent in the external/theory /practical/examination and overall 50 percent for
successful completion of each course.

CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESFUL CANDIDATE:

Candidates who pass all the courses and securing 60 percent and above will be placed in first class. Those securing 50 percent and above but below 60 percent in the aggregate will be placed in the second class.
